Football

I went to a Japanese football (soccer) game yesterday. It was intense. According to the other MeySen teachers I went with, if the home team looses the entire stadium boos at them. At least that is what happened last time they went to a game. Fortunatly the Sendai Eagles won and TSC went packing home. The fans were wild. They hoped, waved flags, and sang chants. the unity was amazing! Enjoy the pictures and the sort video (my camara died).

Cemetary

I went to a cemetary today. It had a large bell in the front that some people rang on their way out of the grounds. Many people brought flowers, beverages, and some food to place at the graves. A large ornate building was set at the center of the cemetary. I saw a couple go in, but I felt like an ntruder and stayed clear. It the entrance of the cemetary, there were sheds of cleaning supplies that people could use to clean off the graves. Several pations had brought their children along. only afew people were visibly mourning. It was a very sobering atmosphere. The worship and esteem of ancestors is very alive in Japan. I wish we would respect our elders more.

I observed a Friends Class today. When we went out for our recess there was a first grade boy who just laughed and laughed on the swings. It was like the greated ride in Disney Land to him. I couldn't help but laugh along with him.

The past first days

I arrived in Japan on Monday September 14th and was finally in my apartment by 10 pm that night after a 6 hour drive from the Narita airport. God was good to me. I had three empty seats on my 12 hour flight. I got to sleep for a few hours, watch so movies, and talk to a guy who is stationed in southern Japan. I arrived and when through customs quickly. I waited for my MeySen buddy to pick me up for about 20 minutes. Then Shoko and I traveled over to meet up with Rumi and wait for Hope and Kelsey, the other two teachers, to arrive. Soon we all headed to Sendai. We stopped for our first meal in Japan sometime around 8pm. Finally arriving at our apartments by 10 pm. It was a long day. The next few days we got legally settled in and by thurday we were touring the campuses.
